welcome to the circus

since having 2 kids, M and i often refer to ourselves as "the circus."

when we're hustling our bums to get out the door, and Ellie of course wants to bring 9 obscure objects and/or toys with her and is screaming because we won't let her, and then Alice starts freaking out as we put her in her carseat...and the screaming continues as we go in the car...M and i lower our brows to each other and mutter "here comes the circus."

and when Ellie needs a diaper change, only for Alice to simultaneously explode everywhere and then i'm forced to make a decision: do i finish changing the one i started, or do i change the one who is making a bigger mess? yes, welcome to the "diaper-juggling-circus-act."

and when i'm nursing Alice and of course Ellie desperately needs a drink because she's gonna die because i never ever give her drinks...or when she hits her head on that blasted countertop corner and needs to be consoled...and so i do what any "Houdini-one-armed-mama-circus-act" would do...i give the kisses and drinks and stand on my head while being a cow. circus, i tell you, circus.

sometimes being a part of the circus is fun...like when bubbles and cookies and and hugs and kisses are jumbled all up with a healthy dose of stuffed animals and apple juice and baby rattles. but sometimes being in the circus is exhausting. like when both kids take turns waking up in the middle of the night coughing, nursing, nightmaring, nursing, crying, nursing, rinse and repeat.

so last night during one of those rinse and repeat cycles, i was looking at all of these adorable pictures that have no rhyme or reason on my phone...and they reminded me of our circus life. so i thought to myself, yes, these deserve to be on the blog, randomness and all. and i'm not even going to do captions or descriptions for you. because i just don't feel like it. and because that's what they do at the circus: they show you something crazy and weird without little or any explanation.

welcome to the circus.
welcome to our life.
