March 2014: Alice. lots of Alice.

Alice started playing soccer! she is so cute doing it but really doesn't like it. it makes me laugh. she tells me the whole time after "i'm just so tyyyy-yaaahhd." this kid. my favorite part about the program is Coach Tafa -- she is a Brazilian soccer player whose sister is on their Olympic team and she is phenomenal! i especially love how she calls Alice "Alex" every week... i don't think Alice appreciates it as much as i do.

she still loves gymnastics and is actually a natural gymnast. it's amazing how flexible she is! she recently did the high beam for the first time and didn't even look afraid. i love watching her do gymnastics more than just about anything!

she looks so much older these days. she's losing that baby toddler chub and turning into that little preschooler. crazy how fast that happens without you even realizing it. she is riding Ellie's old bike with training wheels now. she loves that thing with the baby seat in back. M is convinced she's gonna be riding sans training wheels soon, and i'm all like, drrrreeeamm on buddy! Alice does things when she wants and she does not seem to be anywhere NEAR wanting to go on her own. she moves like a turtle on that thing! an adorable turtle. but still.

we are still doing joy school together. oh man, it's the cutest bunch this year! Alice Waltman, Tate French, Peter Smith and our Alice. they are so laid back and chill- it's so fun to be doing it with the almost exact group we did it with when Ellie was in it. it's funny to see how all of us moms have really settled down since we first started. these kids really are a dream together though! i love them all.

i realize that my moments with little Alice as my one and only buddy are getting numbered. it honestly makes me sad because she has been my lil lover who has been by my side when everyone else left. she's seen me through some pretty gray days and i've grown to love our one-on-one moments and conversations. just the other day we went on a walk to the park. i pushed her in the stroller and she just talked and talked and talked and i just listened. in my journal i wrote about how i pushed her on the swings and she kept saying "high-ah! high-ah!!" just like the little girl in Leslie Patricelli's book does. i love remembering that cute moment of her giggling as i pushed her as high as i possibly could (without making myself wanna hurl over with this big ole belly). those swings are her very favorite thing and i love when i get the chance to just spoil her to death with as many endless pushes as she wants.

Alice's happy place these days is sitting at the kid table to draw pictures. i love that! she always has a story behind her pictures and is always coloring or painting or drawing for someone. it's the cutest thing! her artwork always impresses me, too! my favorite moment was catching her coloring her little heart out while she was dressed up as Cinderella, and hummed the whole entire time.  such a cute, creative little thing!

and i absolutely love her style and outfits. she is an original! she definitely marches to the beat of her own drum, and does NOT care if i don't approve of an outfit. in fact, my disapproval is more like a stamp of approval in her book! is that normal at 3??

from head to toe, i love her more and more every day. cute Alice Joy.

November 2013: some random turkey tid bits

November was filled with lots of random, busy, fun, and more fun. looking through my November pictures, i loved noticing that most of my reel was pictures of Alice doing gymnastics. Alice has been patiently watching every single gymnastics class of Ellie's for the past 2 years. she constantly asks me, is it almost my turn? am i big enough to do gyn-astics yet? well, this month was finally her month! her first lesson was hilarious. she just talked and talked and talked the whole time. like she'd been there doing it for her whole life (well, she practically has!).  i think watching her do gymnastics is one of my new very favorite things.

i mean, three year olds in leotards?? i die!!

we also got to hang with some of our favorite friends - the Blodgetts just moved to Brentwood this year, and it's been so much fun having them closer. our kids play so well together! and i love that they've known each other since they were born. destined to be friends for life.

we love getting to go to Stake Conference up at Temple Hill. it's the best! especially since we have so many awesome friends within the Stake. after conference is always a big party with our favorite people. i love the Bay Area a TON - and a lot of that is because of the awesome people we are surrounded by.

during our turn to host Joy School this month, we talked about the letter "H." i had the kids all wear their favorite hats....they were so cute!

we also had Hot Chocolate and frosted some sugar cookies that were in the shape of an H word. i can't remember what that H word was, so i'll let your imagination be your guide.

i'm loving these adorable stories and illustrations that Ellie is coming up with these days! basically she is supposed to write one sentence, and dictate a story to go along with it for me to write. she's cute.

and really is making significant improvements on the violin! she can even read some notes now, and knows all the variations of Twinkle Twinkle. she's very proud of herself! and she should be. i love watching her play, and know i will love listening eventually (said in the most loving way possible).

Gammy came into town for a week! i haven't been feeling too great this pregnancy. in fact, i've been sick a lot. so having her help here was so wonderful! she came and prettied up my yard and cooked us meals and showered the girls and me with a whole lotta love. nothing like Gammy time. we love her so!

the girls got to have a sleepover one night at Gammy's hotel. they had so much fun! they got to order room service and swim at the hotel pool and watch as much disney junior as they wanted. i can't tell you how many times they've asked if they could stay at Gammy's hotel sometime again.

we are in a babysitting co-op with some friends. i almost posted a less blurry picture than this- but i feel that this really captures the essence of what co-op is. it is madness people. PURE MADNESS.

i think one of the biggest blessings to me this year has been seeing the friendship of Ellie and Alice blossom and grow. they've had to deal with a lot, watching their parents be fragmented versions of themselves, and learning how to overcome some serious stuff. they've experienced their own grief and sorrow, and seen us be pretty vulnerable and broken down. and in the midst of it all, they've clung together. sure, they fight, but they love each other so much and that makes me so so happy.

and they show me they love me left and right. i'm really loving all these hand-written notes i find in every corner of the house these days. kindergartner Ellie is my favorite.

and little indian/rain gear/nakey Alice is pretty swell too.

as the end of the month came upon us, we took a spontaneous trip out to Palo Alto to visit the American Girl store. we had never been before; but we started receiving the catalog randomly a few months ago, and of course it made the girls DESPERATE for a doll. (i mean, how could you NOT want one of those gorgeous dolls!?) after a lot of discussion about them, and then picking up my jaw from the floor when i realized how much these thangs cost, i decided we had better go check it out at the store to make sure this was what they really wanted for Christmas. we didn't want Santa bringing this chunk of pocket change if they really didn't even like it.

well, visiting that store with two litttle girly girls is like financial suicide, my friends! of COURSE they wanted one of those dolls when we got there! heck, they wanted 9 of those dolls! and their outfits and kingdoms and crowns and books and undies and other crazy crap that they sell. holy hannah, that store was incredible, and these two lil ladies of mine were in heaven.

and then the end of November was here, and we were ready for a week full of fun at Gammy + Pops' house for the holiday. so much to be grateful for.

Alice's Doc McStuffin's Party

Alice's Doc McStuffin's party was the easiest birthday party i've ever thrown. seriously!
we only invited the kids from Alice's joy school class .... and their siblings. 7 kids total, including Ellie and Alice....and all kids that know each other and get along really well. parties are soooo hard because i always want to invite everyone, not leave a single person out...which is nice and all, but often leaves me hammered, and is so chaotic that i wonder if the birthday kid is really having any fun. but this year i was feeling sooo sick and was on the verge of not throwing a party at all because i just felt overwhelmed by the potential chaos. Alice came to me and said, "pwease, i will onwy invite my joy school fwiends. i pwomise!" and so that's what we did. and, guys - it was a dream. i did just treats, kept it super simple and low key, and all the kids had so much fun. win win win win win all around!

there was a little coloring table - with tons of Doc McStuffin's coloring pages that i had torn out of coloring books.

each kid was asked to bring a favorite toy to give a check up at the party.

such a cute spread of favorite toy friends!

for one of the favors, i made each kid their own "Big Book of Boo-Boos" with their names on them. so simple - just a note book, covered in felt, words written in puff paint (90's represent!), a pen for writing, and a little chart in the inside flap to help them know what to check on their patients.

look at this adorable group of humans! checking out their big books of boo-boos.

i also made for each kid their own stethoscope but i can't find a picture of that....
so for most of the party, they had their books, their stethoscopes, and a bunch of the dr tools that Alice had gotten for her birthday and gave their little friends check-ups. gosh it was ridiculously cute.

after a while, we also played "pin the bandaid on Stuffy and Chilly's boo boos" which was super cute and fun. i love little dizzy kids. pure comedy.

how cute are Tate and Alden right here?

our last game was seeing who could balance the cotton ball on the popsicle stick to the finish line fastest, without dropping it. they were so funny to watch doing this!

then we had cake/treats/opened presents. and everyone was sugared-high'd just in time to go home. my friends love me.

Alice told me it was her "vewy favowite bufday evah" and that she could wait to turn "fwee" again. cutest lil Doc McStuffins i know.
