i'm very excited.
because i'm getting a hair cut on Friday.
which doesn't seem like a big deal.
but i haven't gotten a cut since the beginning of August.
yes, you read that correctly.
AUGUST.
that is almost 8 months. what the!?
craziness.
SO, i'm obviously in GREAT need of a snip snip here and a snip snip there.
AND...
i want to do something different. i'm considering bangs. (gasp!)
dun dun dun.
i've actually been considering bangs since 2007 when Reese Witherspoon showed up to the golden globes looking like this:
and then i considered it again when Alexis Bledel starred in the final season of Gilmore Girls looking like this:
but, i mean, i haven't had bangs since the seventh grade...and i got my hair layered to look like that classic Jennifer Anniston flippy thing:
(someday i'll find a picture and show you what i looked like. while Jen made it look all sleek and chic, mine had bangs with it...and it was caked in hairspray...and it had that curling-iron line. you know what i'm talking about, ladies).
so, the question is,
it's now 2009...over 13 years since 7th grade.
can i pull of bangs?
are bangs worth the hassle?
all you pro-bangs peeps, help me out. convince me they're worth it. and that i can take the bang plunge.
all you bang-haters out there, tell me i'm crazy. and that i will hate the bobby pinning hassle i have to go through for the next 6 months while my hair grows long enough to put behind my ears.
thank you in advance for your opinions.
i need them.
desperately.
p.s. i'll be sure to let you know what i decide.
unless i get it cut and i hate it, of course.
then, i will hide under a blanket and a hat and hoodies for the next 6 months, and then, once its grown out, i'll take a picture of it and show it to you.
xoxo

I'm probably NOT the person to give advice on this topic because I'm so fickle with my own hair. As soon as I grow it out really long, I will keep it for a few months and then chop it all off - and I mean ALL off - to my chin. And I keep vacillating between bangs and no bangs. Every time I get them, I love them for a month - and then I get so sick of them and grow them out - but we all know how long that takes to do!!! Ugh. But I love the look of bangs, so maybe chop them and enjoy them while you can. :)
I'm sure whatever you do will be adorable. I say you can definitely pull off bangs, but I also have to say that bangs can get old REALLY fast. But if you're up for the change, DO IT. You will look great. They put out of the vibe of a total hotty too.
I think you'll look great with bangs, so that isn't really the issue. The issue is that bangs can be difficult. It's super hard to get bangs to look how you want. If you cut short bangs they are tough to get nicely lined-up and straight. Long bangs are tough because if you round brush them sometimes they have "too much" volume and look funny. And yes, then you'll do the bobby-pinning for the next 6 months.
However, bangs ARE fun for the first couple weeks. Until you realize what a hassle they are.
I'm pro bangs right now. Maybe because I have them?! Any ways, it can be a hassle but if you are in need of a change then go for it. That is what made me do it, it was time for a change! I love mine. I think you would enjoy it too.
Whatever Marci, it will be cute no matter how you cut it. I think bangs would look good though....I say go for it. Change is always fun:)
I think bangs can be a fun way to change things up without being too dramatic. I know every once in a while I get so sick of my hair and want a change that I just want to chop it all off. But I usually come to my senses...although my last haircut was six inches. But maybe you could just cut a small amount of a conservative side-sweeping bang to start. My bangs are like that, and they are long enough to meet the edge of my face near my ear on the one side and they are a piece of cake. I never have to hassle with them. Other than originally "training" them to go in one direction, I've only had to pull out the bobby pins like twice. Thats my input but I agree, you could probably pull off just about anything with all of your cuteness!
I say live it up! CUT the bangs.... and if you are too scared I agree with Celeste...start with the long swoop! I LOVE the long swoop on you! Lindsey will do a great job no matter what! And you will look beautiful, bangs or no bangs!!!
Can't wait to see the result!
Besos!
So you are the best neighbor ever! Thanks so much for the cookies and note. Seriously it helped me through a hard night with Bryant so THANK YOU!!! You are one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. (really, Travis & I have talked & agreed on this).
So guess what? I don't think I have gotten mine cut since august either. I am so sick of my hair right now I want to chop it all off! I vaguely remember my hair stylist saying like "make an appointment for october." and I replied with "sure...yep...wink." haha. oops.
I say DO IT. cut the bangs! Be hard core! Bangs grow out ridiculously fast anyway. (so I keep telling myself). Maybe I will cut mine tomorrow and let you know how I like them. I figure the bangs will make me keep some shape or style to my hair for a longer period of time. ha :)
Anyway, I liked the reese witherspoon haircut the best. I can totally picture you with it.
I think you should go for it! My sister Kenzie had bangs when she got married and I thought they were so cute. They are a little bit more work, obviously, but definitely worth it! You can look at a picture of her with bangs on her blog. shaneandkenzie.blogspot.com Good luck!
Marce, You'll look gorgeous no matter what.
Something to think about though.... sometimes with natural curly hair, bangs are a whole lotta lotta work. And you have to figure out how to where 'em on curly hair days. (i.e. do you where 'them wavy to the side or super straight, etc.)
Just throwing in my two cents.
Can't wait to see what you decide.
I had bangs last year, and then I read this and thought, "Um, guilty!"
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/06/27/104-girls-with-bangs/
"Throughout the world, many cultures feature ceremonies to announce that a girl has become a woman. For white people, the haircut-with-bangs is an important symbol that a female has completed her transformation from a nerdy girl to a cool woman. In fact, if you went to high school with a nerdy white girl who moved to a big city, there is a good chance she will show up to your high school reunion with this haircut."
Marce, Please do not get bangs! You will look fabulous with them but it is my opinion that everyone who has them, as pretty as they are, looks better without them!
I LOVE Bangs! I think you could pull them off too, but go subtle at first with maybe a swoop. I have had bangs for the last 3 years and I can't seem to part with them. I'm a fan of the heavy swoop bang, but I have done the blunt, not well though. It takes a certain face shape to do that. GO for it!
im thinken you may know my response to this one....
do it! they are edgy, fun, and they change your face for 5 minutes. question is.. do you like change? i love change.
bangs are a lot of work, because i am not a fan of bobby-pinners. DO NOT cut bangs if you are EVER going to pin them back. that is such a NO NO!
you will be darling either way, but think you will be especially darling with some bangen bangs!
Marci Marci Marci - cut the bangs! i actually just took the plunge last week, it's a scary one ... but so much fun to have a change. also, funny funny - i took that SAME picture in of the gorgeous reese to my hairstylist to give her an idea of what i wanted! good luck. can't wait to see what you decide.
Bangs are so worth it. They are instant style - even when your hair is only in a pony tale.
A few tricks - to make them look right, blow dry them straight down (don't use a roller brush).
Do it.
So, I'm late on this post, but I am all for bangs. I cut bags 2 years ago after never having them and LOVE them. Can't go wrong. They will only acceptuate your beauty!!
dang...I hate typos. I meant ACCENTUATE your beauty :)
I like bangs, but I usually avoid them because I don't want to have to straighten them every day. I think it's too much maintenance. You would look good with them though! I'm getting my hair cut today too! I haven't had it cut in NINE MONTHS! I decided I should do it before baby comes.
oh yes- I've gone back and forth on this one many times myself. I did it and chopped them once, it was fun for a while, I don't think I pulled it off to well... maybe my hair was too short. I've done the swoop, which is a great way to inch your way into the full blown bangs if that's what you want to do. Either way- you will look beautiful! Can't wait to see what you decide!
