let's talk.

let's talk about TV.

i've tried reallll hard to drop-kick TV back to the third grade, but that's just not going to happen- i'm more invested in my shows than ever. such good TV on right now.

let's talk about the Bachelor:
ok, is it just me, or is Ben a total skank? i mean he kisses everybody and just keeps the hot girls. ok, i guess that's not really unique to bachelor Ben, but it seems especially prominent this season. this year M and i made guesses on who he'd pick on the first episode. i'm standing by my unfortunate, yet seemingly accurate guess: he's going for the model, Courtney. typical. i really want him to pick Kacie B (my runner-up second guess)- but they never seem to pick the obvious-best option for them, but rather the hot-irresistible-sleezy-babe. why do i enjoy this garbage so much?

let's talk about American Idol:
is it weird that i don't miss Simon Cowell at all? and that i love the chemistry of Steven Tyler's hilarity with J-Lo's diva-sweet-gorgeousness and Randy's chill swagger? i get the chills an embarrassingly-huge amount of times while watching the show.

let's talk about Alcatraz:
this show is fuh-reeeakky. seriously. i cover my head with the blanket and/or cover my ears at least 4 times every episode. and yet i have to know what the crap is going on. what the crap is going on!!!??? such a creepy, weird show. and pretty cool to see my stomping ground on a show. San Fran is a beautiful city, even filmed with a bunch of whack-job-criminals running wild.

let's talk about Parenthood:

does anybody out there watch this show? it doesn't start here until 10:00 pm on Tuesday nights- so usually i watch it on a night that M goes and plays basketball with his buddies...hence, this has kind of become my show. i confess, i started watching because i'm a total Lauren Graham fan (yes, i'm a Gilmore Girls lover)...and at first i thought it was wayyyy overkill-dramatic. but now, i am totally invested and love the cast and conflicts that come up - it feels so much like real family life.

let's talk about Modern Family:

i'm sick of Modern Family taking random breaks. fer reals. sure, some stuff makes me squirm more than i like, but for the most part i can guarantee more than a few genuine-belly laughs while watching. i love Phil Dunphy's adorableness so much.

let's talk about New Girl:

ok, i'm ready to admit that i watch this show. sure, it's sometimes doused with sexual innuendo (why do they have to do that?). and yes, it's totally dorky. but this is my favorite show on television right now. i love the cast. i love the dialogue. and duh, i am part of the Zooey Deschanel craze- who isn't? she's adorable, funny, and rocks a lot of polka dots. i want to be her.

let's talk about how my life isn't entirely pathetic:

though it may seem to you and my friends that all i do is watch tv and sit around and play scramble with friends, we do like to mix it up and have a lot of fun too. hence, going to the California Academy of Science today. it was the most gorgeous, clear day in San Francisco- and such a much-needed family fun day...away from the TV and couch and laziness that winter bribes me & my people to succumb to.  i love my people. a whole lot. thanks for taking the day to spoil us, Mr. M.

p.s. to my Bay Area friends: we got sucked into purchasing a membership- so let me know if any of you are ever up for an SF excursion / California Academy of Science adventure.
p.s.s. i know i probably shouldn't ask this- but whatevs: any favorite shows that i should add to my list? only really good ones, please. :)

xoxo

I've been trying to call you to tell you about a new show. You will have to watch the first season on netflix and do some online catchup for season 2. It is a PBS show Masterpiece Classic Downton Abbey. It is amazing. It is a manor in some part of England in the 1920s. So Jane Austen-ish. I love it!

P.S. I hate American Idol, every year it makes my show that I actually watch take a really long hiatus because of the stupid try outs that spread out 3 days a week.

4 words: The Big Bang Theory. Seriously the funniest show! We're TV junkies around here, too. Although we draw the line at reality shows (except fear factor!) cuz that's how we roll. After the kids go to bed, the tv comes on. Sad, but true. :)

here are some of our favorite shows right now (some that you didn't list, because we have some overlap):
- big bang theory
- the office (we still watch because we looove Jim & Pam to death)
- once upon a time...which you literally MUST watch
- downton abbey
I can't watch American idol because I DO miss Simon cowell too much. and the bachelor is quality television. period. :)

I love Castle, New Girl, Happy Endings, Parks & Rec, and Person of Interest. Love love Person of Interest.

I can't get into this season of the Bachelor; I'm just not that into Ben, I guess. I've heard a lot of great things about Downtown Abbey; prob should check it out. And Big Bang Theory is hilarious! There's a reason that Sheldon (not his real name) keeps winning awards.

I'm not a huge TV fan, but I really like to watch Mentalist on Thursday nights, if I remember. Alcatraz sounds like something my husband would really like. We were just there.

I keep hearing about Downtown Abbey. I"ll let you know if I ever get around to watching it if it's any good.

I'm with ya on the Bachelor stuff. I tried really hard not to watch this season because I never liked Ben, but it just happens to be on on Monday nights when I'm folding my laundry, so I am slowly getting sucked in again. I still think Ben is lame and this week's episode looks especially skanky, but who can resist all that drama?

If loving TV is wrong, I don't want to be right! :)

i'm glad to know i'm not the only one! i love it when craig asks me "what show is tonight?" because there is a show every night. i think i'd be in trouble if we had any more channels... honestly, we don't even have a basic cable package, we just plug into the wall and get about 5 channels. luckily (or maybe not) they are decent ones. new girl is my current favorite, i agree there is stuff i probably shouldn't like about it, but it keeps me laughing and i love zooey. i'm ready for a new modern family, although i love it so much it's one i actually don't mind watching reruns of. another one i got sucked into is grey's anatomy. it's dramatic and probably pretty pathetic, but i got sucked in. same with bachelor, i tell myself every season i'm not going to watch it, and somehow i get sucked in each time! boo to courtney, she needs to go, but i think you are probably right about her going all the way! oh dear... the drama of tv!

Ok, as stupid as this sounds, I looove Once Upon a Time. Kind of lame acting and a little cheesy, but I'm a sucker for fairytales. It's on on Sundays, but I can watch it online for free.

As for Downton Abbey... I watched the first episode yesterday on Netflix and absolutely LOVED IT, until the last 5 min when we randomly saw 2 guys making out for a million years and found out they were gay. I know thus is so prudish of me, but I am SO sick of tv pushing this gay issue into my face, so I don't think I'll watch it. That being said.... It was so good. Isn't that how it always
works?

I really enjoy Parenthood.. you are not alone. I started watching for the same reason, but have really come to love it. It seems so much like real family life to me and I enjoy it. New Girl is adorable! Modern Family is hilarious.. but does take a TON of breaks. (Why??) While Grey's Anatomy can be a bit scandalous, I have an obsession with it since I watch the first few seasons while I was on bed rest..

You really should check out The Big Bang Theory.. it is HILARIOUS and I'm sure you would love it!

I love Parenthood. I really relate to the autism story because I teach an autistic boy in primary. I think you would love Hart of Dixie on CW? Give it a try.

Trevor and I stay up till the wee hours laughing our butts off to THE BIG BANG THEORY. This is a great show. Sometimes, I even pee a little. True Story.

ONCE UPON A TIME is fabulous! I watch it every single Sunday. I absolutely love this fantasy.

GRIMM is pretty good. Trevor would say it is amazing. NBC has taken the Grimm fairy tales to the next level. I find the mystery around the characters very interesting.

I also like RAISING HOPE. It's about a single dad raising his daughter. He lives with his parents, who live with the mother's grandma. Oh, and did I mention these people are redneck? I love it.

Let's talk about how you're the cutest person EVAR!

I don't know how you find time for so many things in your life (because, let's face it--I have the same amount of hours in the day as you do...), but it just makes me smile when I read your blog and am able to taste a little bit of all the countless things you enjoy and make time for in your days. From running, to cooking, to parenting, to cleaning, to church calling fulfillment, to family outings, to friends & extended family, to television, to amazing parties, you do it all with such great enthusiasm!
