beer commercials.
men dressed in poofy costumes that chase after each other and some oddly shaped ball.
fanatical fans, half naked, fully painted, and emotionally charged watching these poofily-dressed-men.
e.s.p.n. anchors to analyze it all.
football is back.
which means my husband is in football hibernation mode (definition: he will secure his little body on the same spot on the couch every single Th-S (that's just college games)) to be sure NOT to miss a single minute of any obscure team of poofy costume dudes). maybe he'll move to pee. or eat a low-maintenance meal such as a hot dog (ick). other than that, he is glued. feet kicked up. phone at hand (to text his buddies/brothers/dad about the cool play he just saw).
what does this mean for me? well, for starters: there had better not be anything else that i wanna watch Th-S...because i will lose the remote control battle. every. single. time.
all the way till december (when the bowls are finally flushed and over).
and while it all is a little much for me (i mean, really, we're watching Sports Center which is showing highlights from all the games we already watched today...all the same plays, all the same interviews..... is this really necessary?), i have a little confession: i secretly like it, too.
go cougars!

some M happy-isms

{this picture is pretty irrelevant to my post. but i never posted a uhaul picture (look at that thing packed to the brim)...and this post is about M....and he's in it....so there you go}
1. M golfed an 85. he beat his dad (which is a serious accomplishment...a goal he thought he wouldn't achieve until he was at least 65 and retired and could finally spend the money on the hobby, and his dad would have some sort of arthritis or ailment that would make him unable to play to his full capacity). needless to say, this was a big deal.
2. our cougs defeated the sooners. BYU won a big game. they didn't choke.
i think that M can die a happy man.
and i think i'm going to hear about these two miracles for a looonnnngggg time.
and i wish i was more excited about that.
just sayin'.

weekend, shmeekend.
i'm a little sad writing this post...thinking of yet another weekend that has come and gone so quickly. i loved this weekend. it included some of my most favorite things:

shopping with my mom...which means shopping for Ellie...which means Ellie got spoiled rotten yet again. (isn't this beanie to die for!?)...

lots of yummy Ellie smiles!...
Ellie hangin out in the bjorn to cheer on our cougars for yet another fabulous win...which means a very sweaty mommy...
and a very happy daddy!...
and a very worn out Ellie....who decided to hide from the crazy roaring fans underneath this little hat...

some freshly baked banana bread...with just enough powdered sugar to make it a delightful treat...
some good times and good laughs with friends at silly videos like this one (thanks Meg & Dave...this is still stuck in my head as i go to sleep tonight)
{p.s. beware, it WILL get stuck in your head too}
a newly-put-together toy (again, thanks Meg and Dave! it's a hit!)...
a very happy, curious Ellie...working very hard to figure out the mechanics of the toys...
a change of seasons to my favorite: FALL

lots of snuggling...and being adorned in baby gear...
and lots of yummy fresh baths to end our days!
good-bye weekend. come back soon!
xoxo
a visit from my mom...aka "gammy"....which means a little time with family... and a little bit of this:

no hands!
this weekend, we went to soldier's hollow and went sledding. i was a little skeptical of falling with little baby c in my tummy...but it turned out to be yet another unforgettable M&M experience, with (thankfully) no falls.
p.s. it was very cold.
p.s. #2 we really are moving in this video down a pretty steep mountain...though at times it doesn't look like it. M would claim that it is his "excellent" video skills.
p.s. #3 i just watched this again and realized: M&M are really big dorks.

cougars strike again
i think this year's byu-utah game was the perfect induction for baby chappy into the cougar football world. there was laughter, jumping, screaming, frustration, heart-racing, sadness, excitement...and the pure elation that comes along with inevitable cougar victory.
i mean, who wouldn't love seeing max hall make a 49 yard completion on 4th and 18 to austin collie with just over 90 seconds of play, while trailing 10 to 9?? or more excitedly, who wouldn't jump at the sight of harvey unga trucking through the red wall for a game-winning TD?

it was wonderful to spend the game with mike, the byu football passionate of the century, my brother sean and my sister-in-law courtney, and (how fun is this:) mike's dad and his brother mark, who just flew out for the day from california for the game. there were hugs, high-fives and smiles all around.
my sympathy goes out to all those utes out there- better luck next year.

sweet caroline!
yes, i have been a dormant blogger for the past few months...but soon, all will be forgiven for falling so rapidly off the face of the earth.
first off, sweet caroline, go sox! now, i'm not one of those red sox enthusiasts that has yankee toilet paper or red sox slippers...but i do consider myself a huge MLB fan who definitely thinks the sox rock...nothing is quite as American to me than a hot dog, cracker jacks, and fireworks at a baseball stadium. now, with us approaching game 4 of the world series, i'm beginning to question the phrase "Rock-tober" (for the Rockies rockin the month of October)...i think with guys like Manny Ramirez, Coco Crisp and David Paplebon (what names!) "Rock-tober" has transformed into "SOCK-TOBER!" Go sox.

simply wii.

i have so many things to blog about...it's not even funny. let's start with.... the nintendo wii. So, for Mike's birthday, he decided, "I want a Nintendo Wii." I tilted my head down beneath my imaginary lenses and said, "Reality check, bucko. We don't have the cash-flow to support your fancy-shmancy desires." So, he went over my head and talked to his parentals and my parentals. Who can refuse his cute face? Not the 'rents, that's for sure. So they purchased him a Wii for his 24th birthday. Yesterday we received the Wii in the mail...and I'm afraid we've opened a viral can of worms that cannot and will not be contained. We started playing tennis- just one game, because I had to get to bed at a decent hour - and then one turned into best of three, best of three turned into three best of threes, and then it was 1:00 am, I had bloodshot eyes, and was not in the least bit tired. Despite my lethargy today and the inevitable bags that accompany the lethargy, my mind keeps being magnetized back to the invigorating experience of the realistic sensation the Wii creates for its users. At one point in my swing of the control last night, I actually believed I was really playing tennis. I knew, of course, in the depths of my little body, that it was really "just a game," but the combination of the sounds of swinging rackets and hit balls, and the effort it takes to swing the controller...and the fact that you can mess up if you swing too late or too early...the fact that coordination really does matter just like it does in the actual sport really confuses the user into a false reality. Thus, it is my belief that the Wii has revolutionized the Nintendo technologies. I will never reach the same level of satisfaction and achievement on Pacman than I reached last night scoring the match point with a remote control racket. It's a fact that is simply Wii.
